In Bernis, as in many Gard villages, as the Christmas holidays approach, residents compete in imagination to light up their homes. Whether it's Ethan, his brother or even their neighbors, they all enjoy decorating their homes with passion. For an average budget of €200 per year, these people from Bern share a common pleasure: spreading the magic of Christmas in their neighborhood. Despite the enthusiasm, some note that the rise in electricity prices is slowing down the enthusiasm of decorators a little.
“We have the most beautiful house in Bernis”, reacts Ethan, the son of Deborah Lukowski and Loïc Job on this Christmas Eve.
Their house located on Impasse des Pigeonniers shines with its luminous decorations observable from afar. “It’s really a pleasure for us to decorate our house every year with new elements, our parents did it”explains the mother. “We invest around €200 each year”continues Loïc.

Dominique Froment, retired, has been decorating his villa for forty years now. Living on Chemin de Calvisson, behind the supermarket, this Bernissois comes out in his dressing gown to describe his light decorations. “I do it for fun but if there are faulty lights I don't replace them anymore.”
A decoration budget of €200
Father of a daughter, he decorates his house every year with garlands and luminous objects acquired over the years. Everything seems to indicate that Dominique is ready to hand over this tradition which highlights his house.

On the Impasse des Coquelicots side, it is a budding passion that drives Anna and Franck. Their house has a facade on which small animations are constantly projected. “I love Christmas and I’ve been doing this for five years now.”explains this deputy management of an establishment housing dependent elderly people. “This year I bought the luminous reindeer (Editor's note: cost €200)”, explains the Bernissoise delighted.

Her husband is responsible for putting up the decorations. The garage gate is decorated with a magnificent drawing of Santa Claus in a sleigh pulled by a reindeer. Anna would like to point out that the electricity supply is provided by solar collectors, which ultimately reduces the bill.
The rise in the price of electricity slows down mobilization
Many houses in Bernis are adorned with beautiful decorations in this festive period. Nothing compares to this tradition which is taking on gigantic proportions in the United States. In the opinion of the village's budding decorators, they observe “less mobilization probably due to the increase in the price of electricity”.
