in “Le vent du offshore”, the pirates have dark thoughts

Until January 25, users of the François-Mitterrand media library are invited to breathe “Le vent du offshore”. A selection of boards and preparatory drawings is displayed on the walls. “It’s a way for me to finish the project,” confides Vianney Magos. This Belgian native lives in Fontcouverte. He and his partner Audrey are family assistants. At the same time, the 43-year-old designer is building a bibliography.

In 2021, under the pseudonym Haiko Takahashi, with Audrey Magos on the screenplay, he signed “The Monstrous Scary Monster”, published by the Swiss editions Fleurs Bleues. In 2023, he illustrated “Little Red Riding Hood”, an offbeat approach to the famous tale piloted by the Angoumois publishing house Eidola.

“I like the classic side, the adventure, but with several levels of reading, and a slightly dark side”

“Le vent du broad” was written by Fabien Page, whom Vianney Magos worked with at the Saint-Luc school in Brussels, a reference in the world of comics. Florian Cuennet co-wrote the screenplay and the cutting. “It’s a somewhat cursed project, which passed through the hands of several designers. Three years ago, I asked Fabien if he had anything. I liked the story,” says the designer.

The story plays on the clichés associated with the world of pirates. The young hero, who fled the orphanage, is saved by Captain Bonaventure, in search of a legendary treasure. “I like the classic side, the adventure, but with several levels of reading, and a slightly dark side. The book deals with things that are sometimes violent, not always light. »Tempted by very geometric shapes, Vianney Magos was able to infuse them with fluidity to nourish the dynamism of the narration.

During the exhibition, the comic strip is available at Peiro-Caillaud (25 euros). Fleurs bleues editions will be present at the next Angoulême international festival at the end of January. Vianney Magos will bring out his boards for two months at the Fontcouverte media library, mid-March, with a signing session to support. He has other projects in the pipeline, notably with Audrey Magos.
