Even on the phone, Jenifer's smile is easily discernible, throughout a conversation full of passion. “I am happy and fulfilled“, confirmed the singer a few days ago, who looked back for the first time. Usually looking forward, she selected seventeen titles from her first five albums and ten years of career to train Jukebox. A disc designed for “go beyond the simple best-of“, since the rearranged titles include rock touches. Enough to illustrate the energy that drives Jenifer, ready to launch a tour throughout France in January.
Ce Jukebox Tour will pass through the Avignon venue Confluence on April 4, then at Cepac Silo, in Marseille, the next day. Two evenings where the spectators will become actors in the show, since they will choose some of the songs a few minutes before the start of the concert. An uncommon concept for large-scale concerts in France, and one on which the artist confided.
An audience that chooses the songs just before the concert is reminiscent of the fervor of small venues in the United States and the United Kingdom…
I've also seen this in Parisian piano bars, it's the kind of thing we do in smaller places in fact. After the big show that I had the chance to experience on the N°9 Tourwith lots of musicians on stage, brass instruments, I wanted to feel more interaction with the public, and therefore in slightly more intimate rooms. That's what made me reconnect with all these old songs, even revisiting them with great musicians. It was just great to be back in the studio with people I had already collaborated with years ago.
What place do you give fans for the setlist?
We will base ourselves on a list of ten songs each evening, which will be locked. Then spectators will be able to choose the others, almost the entire concert, via an application. They're going to draw from fifty pieces, it's a huge job to rework all that, we've already attacked. These are songs they'll probably never hear again, like Do you love me ? or Call the police my love. We really looked into the collections of albums that stand out among my fan base, this audience that accompanies me and really knows the records.
