A figure in South-East racing, Jean-Pierre Ensch announced to us this Saturday evening in Cagnes-sur-Mer that he was ending his coaching career. Second in the Mage of Merit Prize this Wednesday, Ingrid Turgot will therefore have been his last starter this Wednesday on the Riviera, as the 78-year-old professional confides: “I only had three horses left to run, so it didn't make much sense to continue. If I will always be present in the column of owners, we must give way to young people. I am lucky that my son, Nicolas, is present on site and, as a result, I will continue to trot the horses in the morning for my pleasure. You know, when you take up this profession it's impossible to get rid of it completely… Even if things are better, it hasn't always been easy in terms of health this year. In recent seasons, a horse like Quahir du Chêne will have particularly marked me. And then today I have other emotions, like the one that gave us Jezabelle Bie in the Prix Bilibili (Gr. I), of which I am the co-breeder and co-owner. I had experienced this kind of joy with my brother and my father, but when you are really involved it is something else again. I can say that I only have good memories, I have been happy all my life!” ParisTurf wishes a happy retirement to Jean-Pierre Ensch, who will have achieved 554 victories as a coach during his long career.
