The program for the next Rencontres musicales d’Évian, from June 25 to July 5, was unveiled Monday, December 16 in the evening at the Grange au Lac by its artistic director Renaud Capuçon.
It is a renewed cast of artists, who will be the highlight of this festival, with a grandiose opening on Wednesday June 25 at 8 p.m. by the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Ivan Fischer who is, for Renaud Capuçon, one of the greatest musicians of this century.
After Gabriel Fauré, it is Maurice Ravel who will be in the spotlight on the occasion of the 150e anniversary of his birth, with the complete collection of his chamber music, and as the highlight of this series his legendary Boléro, danced by the Béjart Ballet of Lausanne (June 30, 8 p.m.).
Also new with Pablo Sáînz-Villegas, exceptional guitarist, who will perform the famous Aranjuez Concerto. A way to attract an audience who likes dancing or guitar (June 27, 8 p.m.).
Baroque lovers will delight in the big evening on July 4 (8 p.m.) dedicated to William Christie, whose 90th birthday was celebrated this year. For the first time, he is the guest of the Rencontres musicales d’Évian to conduct an intimate and singular work, signed by a young 21-year-old Handel.
Renaud and Gauthier Capuçon will finally be reunited, at the Grange, for the Brahms double concerto, a work that they had not performed together for more than ten years.
Also note, a “schubertiade” which will bring together three generations of artists, including two gigantic pianists: Emanuel Ax and Mao Fujita, separated by 50 years and who will play together for the first time. It’s a real encounter, in the DNA of the festival.
Saturday July 5, Chinese pianist Yuja Wang will close this festival with two concertos that she will conduct herself from her piano (8 p.m.).
Here is an extract from the main highlights of a festival which promises to be a new grand vintage.
