In Ivory Coast, Ivorian chef Zeinab Bancé has embarked on an extraordinary challenge since Tuesday, December 17: breaking the Guinness record for the longest cooking marathon. With around 15,000 meals prepared for families in need, and only five minutes of break per hour, she could become the new world champion of this culinary challenge. Between individual performance and a surge of solidarity, this challenge attracts thousands of supporters. If she has already surpassed the previous record, Guinness must still verify her performance once the event is over.
With our correspondent in Abidjan, Abdul Aziz Diallo
On Sunday December 22 in the evening, chef Zeinab Bancé exceeded the 120 hour mark of cooking, thus surpassing the world record, previously established at 119 hours and 57 minutes. But, determined to make history, she chose to continue to push her limits even further, beyond the five days already passed.
« As a leader, you are always faced with these kinds of events, with a lot of pressure. A culinary challenge like that of the Guinness record is really welcome for me. I like challenges, I like to surpass myself, I like to do what others cannot do easily », confides Zeinab Bancé.
A national fervor
Since the start of this marathon, the Koumassi agora has never been empty. Day and night, supporters come to encourage their compatriot. “ Zeinab if you don't sleep, I don't sleep » can be read on the back of Evaristide Kouassi, who has been there for five days.
