The President-elect of the United States displays a new haircut, now styled back, abandoning his cult blonde rebellious locks. A mini-revolution which did not fail to make Internet users react.

New cut for a new life? This Wednesday, December 18, Donald Trump unveiled a hair transformation that leaves no one indifferent. Gone is the iconic blond lock sweeping across his forehead: at 78 years old, the President-elect of the United States now sports platinum hair, almost white and styled entirely backwards. A style that immediately triggered a surge of reactions on X and TikTok, where a video of his latest appearance went viral. Between sarcasm and compliments, Internet users seem to be divided. “I love the slicked back hair look, it makes him look even younger!” enthuses @jimbm3. “He looks so fresh,” Tahira emphasizes.

“A connection with Bayrou?”

While many struggle to decide on this stricter style, some have had a field day seeing it as a step towards the mullet cut and making funny comparisons. Among the references mentioned: Buzz McCallister, the character in the film Mom, I missed the plane (1990), and even Elvis Presley, the king of rock. “Is this Mrs. Doubtfire?” once again quipped someone named Wolfgang Bodhi. An Internet user, obviously of French origin, laughs: “Do you think this has anything to do with the appointment of François Bayrou?”

Identifiable, atypical… Donald Trump’s hair has never ceased to be talked about. And it’s far from trivial. “While image is unanimously recognized, by recent political science work, as one of the essential variables in determining electoral choices, the appearances of Javier Milei and Geert Wilders, like that of Trump, contribute to their political positioning », declared to the Figaro, in November 2023, François Hourmant, professor of political science at the University of and author of Power and beauty: the physical taboo in politics (PUF ed.). “Their hairstyle is part of a set of elements that distinguish them from their competitors and from what they reject, namely the elites. They deliberately place themselves at odds with the more conventional figure of their adversaries, their legitimacy falling precisely into the gap that separates them. This is one element among others that accompanies their disruptive, provocative speeches. Because we must not overestimate the power of images either: all this is part of a set of variables.

By scrutinizing them closely, many people noticed that Donald Trump’s hair regularly changed color. Last January, a source close to his entourage gave Page Six a semblance of an explanation: “He is so impatient that he never stays still long enough for the coloring to set properly.” No time to waste.
