the essential
The end of year holidays are fast approaching. And with them, the final stretch to make the gifts. Here are some ideas that will please young and old alike… made in Lot. Nuts, wine, books or even pretty souvenirs, you will surely find what you are looking for.
Meeting the camels
Camels in the Lot? Well, yes, it’s possible. This year, the Camel ranch opened its doors in Lacave. Young and old will be able to immerse themselves in this Moroccan atmosphere, created by the Swiergel family, where eight (soon) ten camels are to be discovered. A dwarf pig and a goat may also wander around there. A real change of scenery. Some derivative products are also offered: milk, cheeses, milk-based soaps, cosmetics, wool… Enough to stock up on souvenirs.

Nuts for an aperitif
Something to spice up your meals. Aurélien Frégeat, walnut producer in Biars-sur-Cère, has developed a walnut recipe for an aperitif. He flavors them with parsley, oregano, Thai spices for lovers of spicy flavors and a cinnamon version for those with a sweet tooth. A winning recipe that will surely make some people happy.
Culture under the tree
Why not offer passes for Lotois festivals, such as “Les meules bleues festival” (which takes place from September 11 to 13) or Ecaussytème (from July 25 to 27). The first, near Cahors, has programmed: Santa, Jérémy Frérot, Keen’V or even the rapper Hatik and the group 47 ter. On the other side, the Gignacois festival announced: Sex Pistols, Ben Mazué, the Ogres of Barback and rue Kétanou, the Fonky Family, the duo Big Flo and Oli and finally Philippe Katerine. In both cases, names are still to come. And nice surprises are promised. A great gift for music lovers.

When winegrowers make cider
Here you have it, a funny idea that might surprise you: Lotois cider! Vincent and Fabien Baudel (domaine Le Passelys in Douelle) have launched into the artisanal production of raw cider. Like many wine growers, they suffered big losses on their crops (mildew, climate, etc.). So the idea of using the cider apple trees, planted on the estate by their great-grandfathers and grandmothers, took root in their heads. This is how “Pomat” was born, a raw cider that stands out for its aromas of fresh and juicy apples. Bottles can be found directly at the “Le Passelys” estate and at the V&B in Cahors.

Snake molts into jewelry
Since September, Fanny Branet, animal caretaker at Padiparc, in Padirac, has started creating jewelry from the molting of snakes. She makes necklaces, rings and also earrings, incorporating a bit of reptiles. An original gift for reptile fans. For the holidays, Fanny also offers to make personalized jewelry: with the hair of your dog or cat, the hair of your horse… Enough to make all pet owners smile.
The jewelry can be found on the Sauv’Nir Animail website: https://sauvnir-animal.fr/
Not Whiskey Made in Batch
It’s the first whiskey made in Lot and it has a wine flavor. In Flaujac-Poujols, Christophe Campoy, winemaker from father to son, is preparing to market his first whisky. The specificity of its beverage: it was aged for three years in a barrel dedicated to white wine. The properties of the new oak aging barrel are interesting: they give roundness, a smoky and sweet appearance to the wine. The winemaker collected a small stock of brew (hot water and brewed cereals) from a local company then got in touch with a distiller from the Gers. When the bottles reached him, they were still very pale and translucent. The producer poured everything into his barrel, which had just been emptied of his Chenin vintage. Three years later, abracadabra: the liquid has become golden brown, amber and much warmer. The winemaker has also launched a fruity gin with citrus notes, which is also reminiscent of his white wine. Because he remains above all a winegrower. In any case, well packaged, a good bottle of whiskey or gin made in Lot is always a pleasure.

The book “Pigments” which combines cave and drawings
For those interested in art but also cave and history enthusiasts. Two years ago, Edmond Baudoin, Chloé Cruchaudet, Étienne Davodeau, Emmanuel Guibert, David Prudhomme, Pascal Rabaté and Troubs (seven big names in comics) were invited by the Parc du Quercy to invest in a small mushroom cave, the one by Pech Merle, for a unique experience of contemporary cave paintings. In the manner of the prehistoric people 30,000 years ago (low lighting and natural pigments) but with their desires, their techniques and their artistic choices today, the designers confronted themselves with the support of the limestone wall which influenced their drawings. The authors return in the book “Pigments” on this unique experience and the prehistorian Marc Azéma, who accompanied them, tells the story of the rock caves and their discovery. The drawings made in the cave will be reproduced using the photographs of Rémi Flament.

The latter is available in several styles: oak, walnut, deer antler… The cutler, with more than 16 years of experience, also offers unique pieces, worked according to his desires.
