Teófilo Chantre is Cape Verdean, author, composer, performer. He became known in the 90s by composing a large number of songs for Cesária Évora. He has just released a new solo album called Emotionally, his seventh studio album. He recorded it in Mindelo, Cape Verde. It’s a return to his roots for this artist who has lived in for around forty years.

Since 2011 and his previous studio album, Teófilo Chantre had not released anything under his name. In recent years, he has worked on other projects, including the Cesária Évora Orchestra, a group intended to perpetuate the memory of the woman nicknamed the barefoot diva. And yet, the singer’s drawers were full of unreleased songs, but the health crisis having passed, things took a lot of delay.

It was in 1993 that Teófilo Chantre began releasing albums under his own name. For him, it all started two years earlier when José Da Silva, the producer of Cesária Évora had chosen three of his compositions for the album Miss Perfumed one of the singer’s best known. Teófilo quickly became one of the star’s favorite songwriters before striking out on his own.

He recorded this new album at his home in Mindelo, Cape Verde. The singer found some of his musical accomplices there, all guarantors of the island tradition.
