The best films at the cinema this week: “Mufasa: The Lion King”, “Sarah Bernhardt”, “Winter in Sokcho”

Here is our selection of the must-sees at the cinema among the new releases showing on Wednesday, December 18.

The Disney classic through the eyes of Barry Jenkins

What is it about? Sometime after the events of the previous film, Simba (Donald Glover) must watch over Nala (Beyoncé) who is pregnant. He entrusts their daughter, Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter), in the care of the monkey Rafiki (John Kani), who then tells him the story of his grandfather: during his childhood, Mufasa (Aaron Pierre) is separated from his parents and saved by a fellow creature named Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). Many years later, when the latter inherits the throne, he finds himself in danger when a white lion tries to seize power. Mufasa and Taka are then forced to flee.

What is it about? 1915, Sarah Bernhardt is the world’s first star. Free. Modern. Divine. Eccentric. Visionary… Between legend and fantasy, Sarah Bernhardt tells us the love story that marked her life. A film of Guillaume Nicloux (“In the shoes of Blanche Houellebecq”) including Sandrine Kiberlain et Laurent Lafitte.

Adaptation of the eponymous book by Swiss author Elisa Shua Dusapin

What is it about? Soha (Bella Kim) is employed in a guest house in Sokcho, a coastal city in South Korea. One winter day, Kerrand (Roschdy Zem), renowned French illustrator, arrives in the small establishment. The young hostess quickly developed a strong interest, even a fascination, for the artist. He awakens in her the mystery that hovers around her own father, whom she never knew, also of French origin. A special relationship will gradually develop between the two characters.
