Jim Carrey has sold his Los Angeles home for much less than the original asking price.

The actor, who recently admitted he had signed on for another film in the franchise Sonic because he “needed the money”, accepted an offer about $10 million less than the price he had originally asked.
Jim Carrey, 62, put the Brentwood, Calif., property on the market in February 2023 for just under $29 million, but after trying for nearly two years to find a buyer, he ended up selling it for $19.8 million.
Although it didn’t fetch the price he hoped for, the sale made it the most expensive residential transaction of the week in Los Angeles, according to real estate data firm Eklund.
But Jim Carrey didn’t lose money. The price is much higher than what the actor paid for the five-bedroom, nine-bathroom property in 1994, which cost him $3.8 million.
When the house was first listed for sale, the actor explained that he was selling it because it was no longer his primary residence.
“For three decades it was a sanctuary for me, but I don’t spend much time there anymore and I want someone else to enjoy it like I did,” he told the era in New York Post.
Last week, Jim Carrey joked that he had returned to film a third Sonic because he was short of money.
“It’s just that I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly,” he told the Associated Press at the premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in London.
