Press release – Oplan, a Quebec company specializing in French-speaking classroom management, is launching a new tool powered by artificial intelligence that generates personalized reading situations meeting the content quality criteria of the Quebec Ministry of Education (MEQ). This technology allows primary school teachers to save time in just a few clicks.

In less than two minutes, the teacher can create any type of reading situation desired, such as narrative, descriptive and explanatory texts. The simplified interface of the tool makes the use of artificial intelligence accessible to all teachers, even those who have very little knowledge of computers or technologies in general. In addition, the educational content generated is completely customizable, depending on the specific needs of the teacher:

  • Academic level: From the first to the sixth year of primary school, adapted to the requirements of the MEQ program.
  • Number of words: Personalized to match students’ reading abilities based on their grade level.
  • Prioritized verb tense: Tailor-made, based on the learning objectives chosen.
  • Type of questions: For identification, inference or short development, depending on the educational intention. Other types of questions will be added over the coming months
  • Desired theme: From animals to sports, travel and even current events, teachers can choose themes that really capture their students’ interest.

An effective and motivating tool

In addition to saving teachers time in developing learning activities, this cutting-edge technology promotes students’ academic motivation. Being able to choose the theme of reading situations allows teachers to ensure that the generated text matches the interests of their students, thereby encouraging them to read.

The technology developed by Oplan also ensures the inclusion of children with special needs, because they often have specific interests that do not necessarily coincide with those of other children. Along the same lines, the tool will soon make it possible to generate a similar text, but to choose the degree of difficulty to adapt to the student’s needs.

“At Oplan, we are deeply committed to putting technology at the service of teachers in Quebec, in order to offer them effective and simple tools, which make it possible to lighten their task. With the reading situation generator, we help optimize their classroom management while promoting the success of their students. This tool is just an overview of what we plan to develop over the coming months to further support them. Moreover, we would like to thank our financial partners, collaborators and partners, in particular Hectiq.AI, for the scientific contribution behind this innovation. »

– Yann Giroux, PDG d’Oplan

“For decades, the texts offered to teachers have focused on themes that are rarely of interest to students, particularly those living outside of major centers in Quebec. Our completely customizable generator allows you to create very high quality texts, adapted to regional realities. For example, the text can deal with fishing in Gaspésie, relations with indigenous communities or even local athletes or artists. The possibilities are endless! »

– Dave Tardif, VP Education and educational advisor, Oplan
