Make children actors of their passage to operating room and de-dramatize this sometimes complicated moment. This is the objective set by the P’tits doudous association of the Dieppe hospital (Seine-Maritime), as recalled by its president, Julien Suard.
In recent years, numerous investments have been made to make this time of life less stressful for children aged nine months to 16 years. In fact, a whole fun course has been set up where the child actively participates until arriving at the operating room, behind the wheel of a small electric car.
He can personalize his anesthesia mask, recover in the recovery room by watching cartoons or playing games. And before leaving the hospital, he leaves with a gift.
However, as Julien Suard points out, although children’s crying has significantly decreased, all this has a cost. Céline, the association’s treasurer, specifies that it costs €7 for a child to visit the operating room, “knowing that we have around 25 children who come per month”.
So, Monday December 16, 2024, the various members of the association were happy to receive a check for €2,000 to support their actions.
Anticipate the gifts of 2025
It was the association J’aime le bout du quai which decided to make this donation. Christophe Beaudet, the president, Daniel Caplain, treasurer and Marion Gregorio, secretary, came to hand deliver it.
This association organizes various night markets on Quai Henri-IV during the summer period. With the profits collected, she finances the fireworks at the herring fair. “As we had a little money left, we mainly thought about the children,” says Daniel Caplain.
This check will replenish the association’s coffers after various investments, but it will notably contribute to the purchase of gifts for the year 2025.
Conquered, the members of the association J’aime le bout du quai declared that they will try to repeat the operation.
