Selena Gomez announced the happy news in an Instagram post earlier this month but a new report suggests the couple actually got engaged in August but chose to keep it a secret until the right time. According to a source, the singer and her partner Benny Blanco did not want their announcement to conflict with Selena’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, who publicly announced he had become a father for the first time.
The source in question told DailyMail.com: “They got engaged in August and Selena didn’t want her engagement to be linked to Justin Bieber in any way. They knew this would be the case. Selena knew there would be stories accusing her of getting engaged to distract from Justin’s baby, or that people would claim she did it to one-up him.
Justin – who dated Selena for eight years before their last breakup in 2018 – welcomed a son named Jack with his wife Hailey in August.
