Rage Against The Machine’s Tim Commerford has encouraged his fans to get screened for prostate cancer.
The Rage Against The Machine bassist was diagnosed two years earlier. Today, he explains that he has “never felt so strong in my entire life”.
“I’m 56 years old. I’m an artist, I focus on that and I’m proud of it,” the rocker continued. “I’ve always taken great pride in being fit as an older person, because most people my age aren’t, that’s the truth. And I feel really good about that. »
The musician later recalled that he felt “broken” when he was first diagnosed with the disease. “It took me a while to be able to talk about cancer without getting emotional and crying,” he said.
Tim Commerford also insisted on the importance of prevention and being attentive to your health, indicating that it is “very important” to “consult an expert” if you notice changes in your state of health, in order to obtain an early diagnosis. Which he himself had not done, unfortunately.
“If I had seen an expert sooner, he would have done an MRI and seen the location of the cancer, which would have allowed me to remove it right away, and I would have been better off,” said -he explained.
Tim Commerford spoke openly about his cancer for the first time during an interview for SPIN in December 2022.
“I faced some pretty serious problems. Right before I went on tour with Rage, I had my prostate removed and I have prostate cancer. I have always taken great pride in being fit and taking care of myself. But it’s something you’re lucky about or you’re not,” the Rage Against The Machine musician explained.
