Saturday December 14, the last concert of the year the School of Arts pays tribute to Guy Lafitte in its auditorium with Richard Calleja, tenor saxophone, clarinet, Thierry Gonzalez, piano, Bruno Mamdy, double bass and Guy Ould’Yahoui, drums.
At a very young age, Guy Lafitte learned jazz on the clarinet in the orchestra of pianist Jimmy Rena. He then played in the cabarets of Toulouse and the south of France. Then he swaps his clarinet for a tenor saxophone. Based in Paris, he plays with the greats of jazz. This is how he became friends with Bill Coleman who recently paid homage to Cadeillan. In 1961, Guy co-signed the music for Dick Rivers’ first big hit with Les Chats Sauvages, “Twist à Saint-Tropez”, with pianist Martial Solal. In 1971, he abandoned music to devote himself with his wife to his sheep on his farm in Tournan. He returned to jazz in 1977 during a brief tour with Wallace Davenport.
From then on, he participated in numerous jazz festivals. Honorary president of the Jazz in Marciac festival with Bill Coleman, he also took care of the Ramatuelle jazz festival where he became friends with Jean-Claude Brialy, whom he introduced to Samatan to sponsor the antiques fair. A book published by Art-média tells the life of Guy Lafitte based on a few notes written over the course of his days.
