The idea may seem preposterous but it is very real: Arnaud Feger, from Pluvigner, uses squash scraps to create key rings and jewelry.
When you hold one of these objects, you notice that the material is light and hard. “I discovered it from Alain Billon, from Art et gourdes, who makes lamps with squash lagenaria », explains the Pluvignois.
The artist from Pluneret grows his squash in his garden then dries them, before transforming them into colorful lamps, all unique. It was he himself who suggested to Arnaud the idea of using the funds (which he has no use for).
Once sanded, the latter cuts and decorates them. He started with key rings then pendants and recently he has also created earrings.
For Arnaud, it is a new support for pyrogravuresince it is this activity that he has been developing for a year and a half, with his micro-enterprise AFB wood pyro. A new job for this 48-year-old former crepe maker who has suffered from multiple sclerosis for 20 years. “A passion that really drives me,” he says.
Personalized pyrography
Each of his creations is unique. He is inspired by a photo or a drawing that he reproduces on wood using his pyrograph on a piece of wood, most often from recycled wood.
The result is stunning, like the portraits of his two grandchildren, or this Japanese-inspired painting, made on a thicker piece of wood. “I do everything: characters, animals, inscriptions of letters, etc.,” he lists. The principle is simple: I use carbon paper which I trace onto the wood before drawing with a pyrograph. »
The object is customizable as desired, including in format. “It is impossible for me to do exactly the same thing a second time, since there is a question of the intensity of the pyrographer’s mine at each location,” explains Arnaud. Hence this unique side, “and that’s what thrills me. »
