The last exhibition of the year, organized by the Coteaux et Landes de Gascogne Tourist Office, has the theme “Jazz portraits”, works by Didier Le Jallé, painter. His Indian ink paintings show a glimpse of the epic of some great names of American jazzmen, until December 14 at the Maison du Roy.
Didier Le Jallé was born in Casteljaloux to a Breton father and a Savoyard mother. After studying in the region, his career took him to work in Le Mans, in Sarthe, in the field of IT, notably creating software, for three years. For a few years, he traveled through several regions of France depending on his wife’s various professional assignments, then the return to Lot-et-Garonne became obvious! For twenty-seven years, he worked within the Terres du Sud group. He was elected mayor of Ruffiac in 2010.
Jazz Festival
In 1992, he started painting for fun, and hasn’t stopped since! He says very freely: “I am self-taught, even though I was little I loved drawing. I really started to get into it in 1992, immediately using Indian ink. I found it worked well with jazz! A friend saw my paintings telling me that I had some skills and that I should exhibit! » The adventure began after an exhibition at the Remparts Art gallery in Marmande where the organizers of the Jazz Festival, discovering his paintings, ordered 10 portraits of Jazz greats, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Billie Holliday, etc. for the next Festival. Since then, collective exhibitions have followed one another in the region, notably with the Poussignac cultural association. At the Maison du Roy, Didier Le Jallé presents portraits of his favorite stars including John Coltrane, Art Tatum, Charlie Mingus, double bassist, pianist, composer, a gifted one, he says… but also Billie Holliday, Nina Simone… and the others!
To be discovered at the Maison du Roy until December 14, during the opening hours of the tourist office, Monday to Saturday. Contact: 05 53 93 00 00.
