The future of Star Wars should it be conjugated in the past tense? After the series The Acolytewhich explored a story long before the Skywalkers saga, Skeleton Crewhe unites the family films of the 80s – notably the productions of Steven Spielberg with his company Amblin, The Goonies in mind – with the very distant galaxy for a rather promising result.
However, At Attin is a planet strangely untouched by Star Wars. It is even closer than ever to us with its little residential suburban look and its automated tram-buses. Fortunately the droids are there to let us know that we are in Star Wars. This almost too quiet planet is considered boring for some of its young inhabitants. Four of them (Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, and Kyriana Kratter) are going to explore old ruins. The start of a perilous adventure which will lead them to meet the intriguing Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law).
Space Pirates
And Stranger Things on Netflix is rather the heir to the fantastic branch of family films of the 80s, Skeleton Crew poses as a repository of stories of exploration and adventure with its story which evolves in the world of pirates. A logical choice for a series paying homage to the 80s (The Goonies thus set off in search of the treasure of Willy the One-Eyed) and in the universe Star Wars (after all, isn’t Han Solo a smuggler?). Result: the series quickly manages to find its identity. Of the three episodes (for a total of eight) revealed to the press, Skeleton Crew offers a feeling of discovery of the unknown which was somewhat lacking in the latest productions Star Wars (exceptAhsoka). A feeling reinforced by the aliens encountered and the worlds visited, which differ from the usual canons of the universe.
Skeleton Crew therefore succeeds in its emulsion, especially since everyone seems to have had fun, whether in front of the camera or even behind it. The creators of the series – Christopher Ford and director Jon Watts, in charge of the films Spider-Man with Tom Holland – have thus brought together a fine group of filmmakers (David Lowery – The Green Knight -, The Daniels – Everything Everywhere All At Once -, Bryce Dallas Howard – The Mandalorian – ou Lee Isaac Chung -Twisters ) to produce the eight episodes. So, even if it is not revolutionary, Skeleton Crew succeeds in refreshing the family adventure genre. A candy for the holiday season.
