Dune: Part Two was released in cinemas on February 28, 2024. As with the first part of the saga, it largely convinced spectators and specialist media. Its director, Denis Villeneuve, is already writing the third opus, Dune: Messiah.

The first two films of the future trilogy will probably remain considered juggernauts of the cinematic world; Dune and Dune: Part II have largely won the hearts of spectators and specialized press outlets. The first part generated $400 million at the worldwide box office while the second managed to exceed $700 million. A success also due to the acting of the stars chosen to embody the universe. While Denis Villeneuve is already writing the script for the third opus, certain names are trying to remind people that they are still available.

Javier Bardem, a message to pass

In the first two films of the trilogy, you surely saw Stilgar’s role evolve. He is the leader of the Fremen, the desert inhabitants of the planet Arrakis. The character is played by 55-year-old Spanish actor Javier Bardem. He is particularly known for his appearances in Before the night (2000), Goya’s Ghosts (2007) or even Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge (2017). In an interview with Deadline, Denis Villeneuve claims that he is currently writing the screenplay for the third opus. It takes up the story of the book The Messiah of Dune by Frank Herbert.

However, in the plot, the character Stilgar is very present. Information that Javier Bardem did not forget during an interview with the media Variety.I know I’m in the book, so I should be in the script. If I’m not, I’ll be very angry and let him know. I will go to Canada. But seriously, I totally love it. I love it. Whatever he wants and whatever he decides, it will suit me. Absolutely. It is one of a kind. He is an extraordinary human being. Such a loving, fun, funny man and he’s a real worker”, says the actor. And if his wish came true, he would like to participate in a very specific scene to please his son. When he saw Dune 2, he stood up in the theater and said: That’s my dad! But in the end he said: You’ve never had a sword fight”, he adds.

A series to wait

If you don’t want to wait until December 16, 2026 to see the third part of Dune, you can focus on HBO’s new science fiction spin-off, Dune: Prophecy. It explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit in the universe of Frank Herbert. The series has been rather well received by press outlets and comes away with a 68% from more than 60 reviews on RottenTomatoes. Spectators, for their part, gave a less flattering rating with only 59% positive opinions.
