The covid having forced the organizers to cancel the event two years in a row, the Andain’ries festival, who will live his 25the edition in Bagnoles (Orne) in 2025, was born 27 years ago.
“At the time, I was in sales and I knew a person who organized the Les Ambuscades humor festival in Cossé-le-Vivien in Mayenne,” says Serge Bretel, president of the association. I met the comedian Pierre Aucaigne there with whom I became friends.
At that time, I was president of the Secular Association in La Chapelle-d’Andaine and when I came back, I wanted to offer an evening of humor.
This will take place at the Salle Fléchard with comedian Bob and Le Rideau attelé, in front of 200 spectators. “My intention was not to put on a festival, but simply to entertain people,” he confides.
A festival guarantee of quality
Given the success of this first, the initiative was renewed.
The evening becoming several evenings, then a week and fifteen days.
“The Andain’ries became the 5the largest comedy festival in France, with great recognition among the profession, when we see that the Comédie + channel is interested in us, notes the manager. We welcomed many headliners and word of mouth worked. The comedians scheduled at Andain’ries know that they will be well received and friendly. More and more people want to come here.
Our festival has become a guarantee of quality. One year, when we were at the Avignon festival, the comedian Félix Radu highlighted on his poster the Raymond Devos prize that he had won at the Andain’ries.
Patronage
Every year, Serge Bretel and his wife Catherine, director of the festival, take their pilgrim sticks to make their program, going to see shows across France, but also in Switzerland and Belgium.
“With our 25 years of experience, we know our audience and their tastes. Our wish is to take it into different universes: music, visuals, magic, madness” explains the programmer.
To operate the machine, they are supported by 45 to 50 volunteers, who have become professional over time, and today form a big family.
With 6,000 spectators, the 2023 edition broke the entry record, and required a budget of €300,000 including fees for artists, technicians, accommodation, catering, equipment rental, etc.
“In addition to ticketing and community subsidies, we are fortunate to have around a hundred companies as patrons, which provide a third of the budget. We are also developing patronage among individuals.”
25 candles
For the 25th anniversary, the public should expect a few surprises. “For the anniversary set, Pierre Aucaigne was a must. He’s a star in Switzerland and Belgium, and he knows a lot of people in the industry. Other essentials, Bodin’s, which return for the 3rde times. The Maria also came, but alone, with her solex, underlines Serge Bretel.
Among the headliners, we have Jeanfi Janssens who I have wanted to bring in for several years already. Negotiations with its production have finally been successful.
The “Young Talents” competition will once again be high-level with eight comedians “who have at least 5 years on stage behind them. In recent years, we have welcomed, among others, Alex Vizorek, Jérémy Crédeville, Elodie Poux, Aymeric Lompret.”
So, advice to fans: the ticket office opens on Sunday 1is December 2024 is the perfect opportunity to give Christmas gifts to your loved ones or friends. “I advise people to book as early as possible because, in the outbuildings of the castle, we only have 700 places, and some evenings risk selling out very quickly,” concludes Serge Bretel.
