The magazine “8:30 p.m. on Friday”, presented by Laurent Delahousse, offers an offbeat and sparkling look at a current or social event.

Autotune is a technology that appeared in the musical world in 1998 with the release of Cher’s global hit, Believe. This voice-modifying software has revolutionized the music industry, and thousands of artists use it today, particularly in the world of rap. Some people like it a lot, others get annoyed by these distorted, metallic-sounding voices.

Initially, however, autotune was created in 1996 so as not to be noticed: it was then a matter of discreetly correcting false notes and making them sing in tune every time. Even more surprising, its inventor, the American Andy Hildebrand, was an engineer in the oil industry, specializing in seismology and acoustic waves.

A report by Louisa Ould, Vicent Barral and Sarah Jung.
