The 77-year-old icon revealed in September that he could no longer see in his right eye after suffering an eye infection this summer.

More recently, the singer detailed the extent of his problem on Good Morning America.

“I unfortunately lost sight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of ,” he explained on November 25. “I haven’t seen anything for four months now. And my left eye is not in the best shape.”

However, if the musician hopes that his eyesight will improve, he now has difficulty recording new songs.

“There is hope and encouragement that everything will be okay,” he began. “But I’m kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like that (the interview), but go into the studio and record, I don’t know. Because I don’t see the lyrics to begin with. We are trying to improve it. I don’t see anything, I don’t read anything, I don’t look at anything.”

During an appearance at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony last year, Elton John hinted that he was working on a new album. A project which seems to have stagnated since. “It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything and I need to get off my butt,” he said.

The artist first spoke out about his eye problem in September. “What happened to my eye is very painful. I’m used to getting up in the morning, looking at all the newspapers, the charts, everything that’s happening in the world creatively. And I’ve lost that for the moment,” Elton John told Variety.
