The beginning of your previous film, “Great Expectations” takes place in Corsica?
I have been coming to Corsica very regularly since I was 18 or 19 years old. I have very close friends here. And the “mishap” at the beginning of the film, on this village road, happened to me in the Corsican Cape. I was scared of my life. With a less tragic ending fortunately, but I told myself that something had to be done with it.
It became the starting point of the film and I couldn’t see any other place where it could have happened.
Is that where you spotted Cédric Appietto?
I couldn’t see myself filming here, on the island, without island actors. I had already seen and really liked Cédric in Thierry de Peretti’s films. I wanted to work with him. He’s a great actor. It clicked between us and we said we wanted to work together again.
Therefore, for The Victoria SystemI didn’t give it a test. I immediately thought of him in the role of Dominique who is both the brother-in-law and the partner of David Kolski, played by Damien Bonnard.
