Movie theater attendance is driven by a winning trio: the sequel to “Inside Out 1” from Pixar, “Un p’tit truc en plus” from Artus, and the adaptation of the novel by Alexandre Dumas with Pierre Niney in the title role.

IEagerly awaited every year, with its reduced-price tickets (€5), the Fête du cinéma got off to a flying start on Sunday 30 June, with a record total of 1.4 million tickets sold during the day! This attendance was mainly driven by three films, the first of which was Vice-Versa 2 – the new Pixar has delighted 1.28 million additional fans in five days, including 530,000 on Sunday. Now accumulating 3.21 million admissions, the animated film is already in third place in the Top 2024. The summer holidays should help it reach a final score of at least 6 million admissions.

Spectacular rereading of Alexandre Dumas’ novel by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, The Count of Monte Cristo also sold out, bringing together 671,000 spectators in 628 cinemas in just three days (the feature film was in fact released on Friday instead of Wednesday). That’s almost as many as The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan over five days (724,000 admissions) and more than The Three Musketeers: Milady (611,000 admissions), two other recent and ambitious adaptations by the same author. Between enthusiastic word-of-mouth and long-term summer exploitation, the bet of this blockbuster with a budget of €43 million will certainly be won.

Now third, A little something extra still attracts 373,000 laughs in its ninth weekend, and has just passed the 8 million admissions mark. In fourth place, Without a sound: day 1 scared 260,000 fans on 484 screens, the best launch of the horror saga. Big disappointment, however, for The Hennedricks Family, which only cheered up 86,000 curious people in 540 cinemas. We are very far from the scores of The Ch’tite family (2.01 million admissions) and Radin ! (869,000 admissions), which already featured the Laurence Arné/Dany Boon duo.

Disappointment also for Kinds of Kindness, which only attracted 35,000 moviegoers on 238 screens, a clear drop compared to Yórgos Lánthimos’ latest films, Poor Creatures (155,000 entries) or La Favorite (131,000 admissions). Conversely, the offbeat comedy by Jean-Christophe Meurisse, Plastic Guns (21,000 entries) progresses compared to Blood oranges (14,000 admissions) by the same director.
