The La Rêveuse ensemble offers, this Tuesday evening, at the Maison de la Culture de Bourges, to rediscover the forgotten London of pleasure gardens, through little-known pages of the baroque repertoire.
The notion of “pleasure garden” refers to the 18th and 19th centuries in London, where many parks and gardens were veritable amusement parks, offering the public all kinds of entertainment: theater, concerts, balls, circus shows, fireworks…
The La Rêveuse ensemble has chosen to revive the most famous, those of Vauxhall, south of the Thames, where part of the musical creation of the moment took place, with works specially written by Georg Friedrich Handel and Thomas Arne. The musicians
will perform pieces by these two composers, but also by Pier Giuseppe Sandoni, James Oswald, Giuseppe Sammartini and William Thomson.
