Entering the cabinet of curiosities of Julien, hairdresser-barber in Céreste-en-Luberon, is an experience similar to tasting a Proust madeleine. Once past the astonishment aroused by the decor, we stop in front of each object and the memories flow.

The razors, one of which is a reproduction of a Neolithic razor, the shaving brushes and the posters, everything comes together for a journey through time. Julien, the owner of the place, says: “Coming from a family of barbers and hairdressers, I started collecting objects linked to this profession very early on. Many of them were given to me. I couldn’t stand leaving them locked in boxes anymore, they have a story to tell. I am lucky enough to live in the house of a former barber from Céreste, Mr. Rebuffat, who worked in the 19th century. It therefore became obvious to me that I had to pass on this heritage.

The transmission of this know-how already occurs through the discovery of the habits and styling methods of yesteryear. “There was the ladies’ hairdresser, the men’s hairdresser and the barber. They were distinct professions“, explains Julien who also offers shaving lessons, which can be the occasion for an outing between father and son, a bachelor party, or simply a desire to learn the gestures of yesteryear . In this office, we do not cut hair. To do this, you will have to go to the Luberon markets to find Julien.

Only the pleasure of exchange and discovery counts in this timeless place.
