This Sunday, June 30, 2024, the whole of France went to the polls for an exceptional vote initiated by the dissolution of the National Assembly by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron a few days ago. A decision which shocked the country and which follows the results of the European elections where the National Rally party had the best score and obtained 30 seats in the European Parliament.
In the first round of this election, the turnout was over 67% according to estimates, 21 points higher than in the 2022 legislative elections. Among the voters, there were of course those who are running for a seat in the National Assembly like François Hollande, former President of the Republic and now candidate of the New Popular Front in the first constituency of Corrèze. He went to vote in Tulle, his stronghold where he said yes to Julie Gayet two years ago.
When BFMTV journalists filmed him just before casting his ballot, they noticed the former head of state smiling but somewhat concerned. Indeed, he had forgotten to take his ID which was brought back to him very quickly !
What result for François Hollande?
The figure of the PS obtained 37.63% of the votes this Sunday, June 30. He will face the RN candidate and the outgoing LR in the second round on Sunday July 7. He is ahead of Maïtey Pouget of the National Rally, making strong progress in the department, with his 30.89%. Outgoing Les Républicains MP Francis Dubois brings up the rear by obtaining 28.64%.
François Hollande surprised the entire French political class by announcing his candidacy, the day after the presentation of the New Popular Front agreement. During his speech after the first round, François Hollande called for a rally against the RN “the largest“, bringing together “all those who recognize themselves in the values of the Republic” And this “whatever decisions the political leadership takes“.
