There are Christmases we spend with family and Christmases we spend watching our favorite series. And on December 26, there will be a complicated choice to make because season 2 of Squid Game will be released on Netflix. The production is making a comeback after worldwide success during the first part in 2021. It even obtained a score of 95% from more than 70 media reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Season 2: What to expect?

How can we do better than the unanimously acclaimed first season? This is the question that the thinking heads of the series had to answer. While season 1 took more than 10 years to think about, the second part only took three years to be released on Netflix. With the information from the various trailers, we already know that the latter will be a sequel. We therefore find the two surviving protagonists of the first season, Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and the police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon). No worries on the side of the bad guys because we will once again have the right to the man in the mask (Lee Byung-hun) and the recruiter (Gong Yoo).

For the moment, we don’t know much about the plot but the creator of the series has decided to tease information about the third season which has already been announced for 2025 by Netflix! “When fans see the end of season 2, they will be very angry. It’s going to be good for you to take this short break and wait for season three, because I can say with certainty that it’s definitely going to be worth the wait”, he says at the microphone of Digital Sky. He also wishes to inform viewers that the next two seasons will be linked by a common story. “If you look at seasons 2 and 3 from a broader perspective, it’s one story, but in the middle of it there’s this inflection point that kind of catapults the story into a different direction”, he adds.

For the first season, Squid Game made a strong impression with its nine episodes which tell a single story. Ultimately, an opposite choice was made by production for seasons 2 and 3. The latter is already in editing and was filmed at the same time as the second. This is what explains that Squid Game will have its third part directly in 2025. No more waiting time that scares away subscribers, they will just have to wait a maximum of 1 whole year.
