Nicolas Peyrac: “At the seaside, I have a feeling of freedom.”

Nicolas Peyrac spent his entire childhood in Brittany. His father, a doctor, left Paris with his wife and child to settle in Saint-Brice-en-Coglès, a few kilometers from Fougères. Then came the divorce and the loss of love for the region:

As a child, Brittany meant spending the week at my mother’s, weekends at my father’s, taking the bus, 45 km in one direction, 45 km in the other. I didn’t have a great memory of it” the singer tells us.

Nicolas Peyrac traveled a lot. He even left France to settle in California, then in Canada. When his father died, he bought the family home and returned to settle in the village of his childhood. His love for Brittany took a particular path:

It came late and since then, it has been an infinite love.

The sea, freedom

The Brittany of his youth is a “land” Brittany. In Saint-Brice-en-Coglès, we are not directly next to the sea. And it is probably this lack which contributed to the singer’s relationship with the sea.

I love the sea, I love the sound of the sea, the smell of the sea, I love the fact that there are tides” he tells us. “I am not attracted to the mountains because they oppress me, whereas the sea liberates me. By the sea, I have a feeling of freedom.”
