A tribute to Peter Lindbergh
Olivier Flaviano, curator of the Gallery, wanted to pay tribute to the photographer and reveal behind the scenes of this historic collaboration between Peter Lindbergh and the house of Dior.
The retrospective combines the world of Peter Lindbergh, Christian Dior and his successors. This indelible link echoes the history of the house. To begin with, the photographer prepared his fashion editorials from storyboards. An original process, far from catwalks and fashion shows, which brings it closer to the approach of artistic directors, who translate their designs through sketches.
The scenography of the spaces encourages this parallel journey. Large black and white prints adorn the walls of around ten rooms and interact with silhouettes wearing the House’s iconic pieces. This odyssey is notably made up of the editorial works that the artist carried out for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Photos that catapulted figures like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista to the rank of supermodels in the 1990s.

The journey culminates with new images, never revealed until now: an extraordinary photographic session taken in the streets of New York, in October 2018. On the initiative of Peter Lindbergh, the house moves the fashion catwalks in full view of the audience. Young models, dressed in archive pieces, blend in with the wanderings and frenetic comings and goings of passers-by. An immersive crossing carried out in partnership with the Peter Lindbergh Foundation, to be discovered until May 2025.
