5MONDE is delighted to 1st Prize for long documentary received by the film “Hawar, Our Banished Children” at the 2024 Farel Prize in Neuchâtel this Sunday, November 17. The French-speaking channel is proud to have supported the production of this documentary produced by Pascale Bourgaux, war reporter and journalist for TV5MONDE.

“In the long documentary category, the jury chose to distinguish a film from the “Women and Conflicts” session, which illustrated how women resist and transform dynamics in contexts of crisis or war. The prize goes to “Hawar, our banished children” by Pascale Bourgaux which was selected for its artistic depth and for its words which immerse us in a little-known subject.” The 2024 Farel Prize jury.

In November 2023, the documentary received the Special Jury Prize and the Audience Prize at the Verra Terra Festival in Bologna and a special mention from the Jury at the Verzio Film Festival in Budapest.

Synopsis: Ana crosses Kurdistan illegally to see her daughter Marya, whom she has not seen for 4 years. Like many Yazidi women, a religious minority in Iraq, Ana was kidnapped by Daesh in 2014. She survived and returned to her community but to accept her, her people forced her to abandon her child born from the rapes. jihadists.
