On June 26, 2024, the Théâtre Antique de Vaison-la-Romaine will host the concert by Thibault Cauvin and Matthieu Chedid, alias -M-. These two guitar virtuosos combine their talents for a unique performance in a universe where classical and electric meet harmoniously.

Musical Journeys and Centennial Scores

Thibault Cauvin, recognized worldwide for his classical interpretations, promises an evening rich in discoveries. “I am going to play music that comes from different corners of the world, where I have had the chance to play recently, which are flavored with travel and reverie,” his repertoire also includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, subject of his latest album. “Bach was an obvious choice. I like to play these scores in my own way, with my guitar, by offering an intimate version.”

The Intimate Report to Bach

Thibault Cauvin hesitated for a long time to tackle the music of Bach. “He impressed me deeply. I was never perfectly serene while playing him,” he confides. However, a new serenity allowed him to approach these works with confidence and passion. “I discovered a new feeling, serenity, and Bach was obvious.”

A Guitar As A Life Companion

The guitar is not a simple instrument for Thibault Cauvin, it is a life companion. “The guitar was given to me from a very young age. My father is a guitarist, he played all the time. I learned to play like you learn a mother tongue,” he says with emotion. This instrument allowed him to travel around the world, meet people and discover new horizons, like Pakistan.

Collaboration With -M-

The meeting between Thibault Cauvin and -M- is the result of mutual admiration and a common passion for the guitar. “Matthieu, I’ve known him since I was a teenager. His guitar bewitched me,” remembers Cauvin. Their collaboration resulted in the album “L’Heure Miroir”, released on June 14, 2024, a two-guitar recital that mixes covers and original compositions.

The Mirror Hour: A Musical Journey with Two Guitars

“L’Heure Miroir” is a work that merges the musical universes of -M- and Thibault Cauvin. “It started with my covers, covering songs by -M- as instrumentals,” explains -M-. The album includes titles such as “Qui de nous deux” but also “La Bohème” and “Les Mots Bleus”. “The fact that the words fade away invites the listener to be an actor and no longer a listener,” adds Thibault Cauvin.
