Andrée-Anne Leclerc made herself known with her pop songs. The singer-songwriter offers Almost alreadya new album composed in collaboration with the Grand brothers. This release is part of a month loaded with new musical releases.
Meeting with the musician from Lévis.
How was Grand Leclerc born?
The project started in 2020, therefore during the pandemic. I had known the Grand brothers, Dominique and Sylvain, since 2016. We had worked on another project together, and I knew they were extraordinary musicians. We became friends after this project.
The guys sent me an instrumental of a song they had started working on. They asked me if I liked it, if I was interested in trying something together, writing lyrics…
Then we started working on this song, remotely. The guys are from Morin-Heights. It really started with a song, called Nuance. We thought we worked well together. This is where the collaboration began.
Why do a project with another name when you already have solo songs under your own name?
This project is something else. We’re going in a different style. Me, I do more pop in my solo project. With the guys, it’s more folk, folk-pop, indie. It’s very organic with a touch of vintageso it’s really different from what I do solo. That’s why I really wanted us to have another name.
Musically, it’s different. Are the themes addressed in the songs also?
There are themes that I may have already touched on in other songs I’ve written over the years. There are themes that are still more new to me. We really went with themes that affected all three of us.
These are stories that were inspired by our experiences, Dominique, Sylvain and me. It really is a collection of stories. We’re going to look for slightly more difficult themes, like depression, more difficult times in a relationship. We talk a lot about the quest for oneself, but also, we will look for subjects like love, resilience, subjects that are a little brighter.

The album is called Almost already. What does this expression mean to you?
It’s from a song called Mystiquewhich is about self-discovery and spirituality.
For me, these words mean that if you remember who you are and your essence, you are almost already where you want to be. It is a message of hope. Don’t give up!
Do you think that Grand Leclerc will have an influence on your personal project?
Every project I do, I definitely learn. I learned about my friends the Grand brothers. I learned maybe new ways of writing, so yes, it will influence my career in the future. Collaboration between three people is listening. We listened to each other a lot to be able to talk about subjects that touched me, subjects that touched Sylvain and Dominique. It’s super interesting. I came out of it grown.
You were in the 2012 cohort of Star Academy. More than 10 years later, how do you view this experience?
I learned so much that year, both on TV and later, when we toured with this beautiful group of people. It opened a lot of doors for me too. I realized I wanted to write my own songs, and then I did. It really is the springboard for Star Academy who pushed me to make an album of my own, then learn how to write my songs. It was really a great springboard. I have great memories from 2012.
L’album Almost already is available on listening platforms.
