The world of Ivorian culture is in mourning. Dan Marcel Kemonty, better known under the pseudonym “Maman Dodo”, died at the age of 30, following a long illness.
The announcement of his death caused a shock wave and sparked a shower of tributes. The Minister of Culture and La Francophonie, Françoise Remarck, was one of the first to express her condolences to the grieving family. “It is an immense loss for Ivorian culture,” she declared, saluting “an artist full of talent, a hope for his generation”.
Born September 3, 1994 in Grand-Béréby, Dan Marcel quickly won the hearts of the public thanks to his caustic humor and his viral videos. As a member of the musical group “Les 2BOYZ” then as a solo member, he was able to carve out a prominent place on the Ivorian artistic scene.
His talent was not limited to music. It was on social networks that he really exploded, attracting a large audience thanks to his hilarious sketches and his reflections on society. Dan Marcel embodied a new generation of artists, capable of mixing tradition and modernity, humor and commitment.
Tributes are pouring in from all sides. A’Salfo, leader of the Magic System group, Molare, Charlotte Dipanda and many other personalities paid tribute to the memory of this extraordinary artist. “A talent gone too soon,” lamented A’Salfo.
