La Balade des Courts is a chance for cinema lovers. The chance to see different films, first of all in terms of their length. Only a few minutes for some, less than an hour in any case. The chance also to see original works and discover directors who will perhaps be the big names in tomorrow’s cinema.

Since Wednesday November 13, 2024 and until Sunday 17, Bourg-en-Bresse is hosting the 11th edition of the La Balade des Courts festival, at the La Grenette cinema. An edition chaired by actor and director Philippe Rebbot, perfectly legitimate in this role of president of the jury.

Cap screwed on his head, Philippe Rebbot, who nevertheless defines himself as a “lazy person”, already has around a hundred films to his credit. Funny or melancholy, he has been making short films since the end of the 90s and has never stopped, driven by the energy of his ex-partner, Romane Bohringer.

Today, he has made a place for himself in cinema but never ignores the atmosphere of the festivals which promote the short films. A cinematographic form that particularly appeals to him, with very educational filming. “The short film is more inventive, more… everything! Since we have to find solutions to everything. You have to move quickly but think all the same, it’s much more exciting than gentrification!‘ he underlines mischievously.

Same love of the short format for his jury partners. “The short film, for me, is the only real space of freedom for filmmakers. And starting with a short film means learning to work with a team, build a scenario, etc… All the issues that exist in a feature film, in the short we free ourselves from them ” explains Nathalie Lebel, from the Agence du Court-Métrage.
