Damso, a key figure in French-speaking rap of Congolese origin, surprises once again by revealing I liedan album of 11 tracks. This unexpected project comes as its official return was initially set for May 30, 2025, with the release of BĒYĀHannounced as his last album. I lied : a confession in accordance with the title, reflection of a spontaneous and almost improvised approach.

An atypical and immersive promotion

To accompany this release, Damso has imagined an extraordinary promotion. At the beginning of November, free listening sessions were organized in several cities, ranging from to Montreal. The artist also left his mark by praising symbolic places, such as the headquarters of the French Communist Party in Paris, to broadcast his album.

Damso surrounds himself with‘Angèle, Kalash and Kalash Criminalartists with whom he has already collaborated, for pieces that stand out. With Kalash Criminel, also of Congolese origin, he delivers a title in Lingala carried by amapiano, this popular South African electro. The track is distinguished by whistling inspired by the street dances of Soweto (South Africa) and a religious choir in the background, creating a rich and immersive atmosphere. The album also reveals an intimate collaboration with Michkavie, his brotherwhose deep and captivating voice is fully revealed on the title Mony.

An album that divides deeply

And I lied marks a bold stylistic turning point for Damso, the reception is mixed to say the least. On social networks, some hail a “sensitive” and “bold” work, where the rapper tries out varied sounds, such as amapiano or symphonic electro. Others, on the other hand, regret a move away from the more raw and introspective sounds that marked his beginnings.

This polarization underlines a fact: I lied leaves no one indifferent. For some fans, evolution is proof of artistic maturity. For others, it symbolizes a break from the authentic Damso they appreciated.
