Actor-director Mathieu Kassovitz, criticized for having declared that the RN has “perhaps its place in France” and that “it is perhaps an experiment to try”, castigated on Sunday the “idiots” accusing him according to him to promote the RN vote and called to “vote”.

Returning to the reactions aroused by a passage from his interview the day before on LCI, the director of “La Haine”, a cult film on police violence, published a “larger extract” on Instagram.

“For all the idiots, imbeciles, assholes who use the same propaganda tools as the fascists and accuse me of having declared to vote RN”, he commented, inviting us to “see the full 25 minutes on LCI” and to “vote next week”.

Saturday on the news channel, the actor from the “Bureau des Légendes” suggested that he would not go to demonstrate in the event of a victory for the RN in the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7.

“I will be with you wholeheartedly, but I am tired (…) of demonstrating, it’s the same circus all the time,” he declared. “Protest me, I’m not really for (…) I’m going to get myself into trouble but I’m for violence in the face of violence,” he continued.

“I have always been a little waiting for the arrival of the FN (editor’s note: former name of the RN) to see what the real reaction of the French is,” added Mathieu Kassovitz, who claims not to vote.

“Are we really the country of human rights or have we become something else? It’s also interesting, because maybe we have become something else, and we have to accept that too,” explains the actor.

“Maybe the FN has its place in France, and maybe they will do a better job,” he said. “In any case it might be an experiment worth trying. (…) We will never really know who we are if we have not gone through this stage,” said the artist, used to rants and media outings.

More than 800 personalities against the far right

On social networks, some Internet users accused him of betraying minorities, while others called for watching the entire interview. Mathieu Kassovitz explains that he would “necessarily vote to the left” if he voted and that he “never understood the people who vote FN”.

In any case, his intervention stands out among the public positions taken by the artistic community. On Sunday, more than 800 culture and cinema professionals (Romane Bohringer, Gilles Lellouche, Cédric Klapisch, etc.) called to vote to block the far right, in a column published by “Le Monde”.

Some 500 personalities, mainly from the music scene (Eddy de Pretto, Clara Luciani etc.), also called on Friday to “obstruct” the RN and its allies, in another forum at “Inrocks”.
