CAMEROON :: Biennale de Dak’art off: Renato Biunno’s brush class :: CAMEROON
Present at the 15th edition of this event, he celebrated his collective exhibition on November 12 with the Tunisian visual artist Ikram Ben Brahim.
Dak’art off Biennale 2024. Renato Biunno comes out in style. Its exhibition “On the banks of Senegal” installed on two sites: at the Cultural Square (Route de Ngor roundabout Bicis-Edk) in Dakar and in Fatik at the Regional Cultural Center, attracts a lot of people. The creation of the artist from Aix-en-Provence (France) is a boon for the eyes; blessed bread for lovers of plastic art.
Renato was already in the country of Téranga. During his stay in the north of the country, he participated in the cruise on the Senegal River with the “legendary boat Bou El Mogdad”. Renato says he took many photos; a report which retraces scenes of the life of fishermen on canoes; Fulani traders at the market; laundresses washing clothes at the water’s edge; children playing in the river, people bathing in the river while chatting.
Whatever the scene of life, the common denominator is that the river always appears near or far. “It is at the heart of the lives of the villagers. These photos tell stories in a concrete and real way. My objective is to give them a contemporary artistic dimension by processing the image through digital painting,” he describes.
In the artistic approach, Renato Biunno explains that these photos are thus worked digitally using various image processing applications “according to my own emotions, by superpositions of images (collages) or with the addition of colors giving them a particular atmosphere: between the real and the unreal, between dream and reality, between transparency and opacity. These are strong moments of creation where the image and the artist become one! These “digital painting” creations are printed on a canvas, plexiglass or forex support and also transmitted by video projection. There are 11 paintings presented on canvas, PVC and large curtains because it is easier to transport.
The other artists invited to this exhibition (November 7 to December 7) are: Baba Diedhiou – Laila Ben Halima, Chérif Thiam – Sika da Silveira, Ikram Ben Brahim – Pape Niang, Sanae Najih.
