Twenty-four years later ”Gladiator” returns to the screens. It’s actually ”Gladiator 2” which comes out of the laboratory.
For this new version of Ridley Scott’s cult film, Paul Mescal replaces Russell Crowe in the role of Lucius Verus. The nephew of Emperor Commodus who must fight for his life in the gladiator ring in front of a seething audience. While Connie Nielsen still plays Lucilla, not without surprise.
”When they called me and said we were definitely going to do it and would I be involved? I was kind of like, ‘really? Are we going to do this? It’s going to be a little scary. People really liked the first one. It had better be good. And then I read the script and I was blown away by the story, which was really, really good, and the plot points that made me go, ‘OK, this is going to be great.’ Yes.” said Connie Nielsen, actress.
Denzel Washington also enters the ancient Roman world by playing Macrinus. He says he admires the tenacity of his character.
”I think he’s a nice man. It is poorly advised. I think he was abused. And I think he intends to attack anyone who gets in his way. I think he was a genius who managed to move from the floor of the arena to the corridors of what we called the Roman hierarchy. I give him a lot of credit. Now, how we got here. You know, we don’t see the half of it,” says actor Denzel Washington.
”Gladiator 2” is in cinemas around the world since Thursday, November 14.
