The campaign for the constitutional referendum on Saturday November 16, 2024 is in full swing in the 2nd arrondissement of Port-Gentil. Since the start of this decisive period, the neighborhoods of this constituency have been in turmoil, driven by the commitment of Jean Fidèle Otandault, former MP and former Minister of the Budget. Drawing on its experience and its close connection with the inhabitants of Port-Gentil, Otandault and the municipal coordination for the yes vote in the referendum are leading a veritable electoral marathon, linking talks, door-to-door canvassing and awareness sessions in the markets and the streets of the economic capital.
Everywhere they went, the welcome given to the former deputy was warm and the members of the municipal coordination were in favor. The population listens attentively to his message: a “Yes” to the referendum, which he presents as a clear choice for a promising future and a break with the constraints of the past. “ Let’s all vote yes, it means turning our back on the past and looking forward to a better future », insists Otandault, convinced of the historical significance of this consultation.
A popular momentum to build as many citizens as possible on the draft Constitution
Awareness efforts continue even in places of worship, such as the annex of the main mosque of Port-Gentil, where a meeting took place with members of the Muslim community registered on the electoral list. The latter expressed their unequivocal support for the referendum, reaffirming their “Yes” for constitutional change.
Open since November 6, the electoral campaign will end on November 15 at midnight before the Gabonese vote on this fundamental law bill on November 16. This Friday should therefore see a sharp acceleration in gatherings, particularly in the economic capital.
