Cairo – The 45th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival, which takes place from November 13 to 22, opened on Wednesday with the participation of several countries including Morocco.
Thus, Moroccan cinema takes part in the “International Critics’ Week” competition, in which seven films compete, including “Radia” by director Khaoula Assebab Benomar.
The jury for this competition includes Moroccan actress Nisrin Erradi, the Irish director of the Dublin International Film Festival, Grainne Humphreys, as well as Egyptian director Khaled El Hagar.
On the other hand, Morocco is participating in the “Horizons of Arab Cinema” competition, with the film “Marja Zarqa” (Blue Lagoon) by director Daoud Oulad Al-Sayed, alongside 13 other cinematographic works.
The Moroccan film “Ana Machi Ana”, directed by Hicham El Jabbari, is also included in the list of films planned in the special screenings program, which includes 12 feature films.
On the sidelines of the festival, the tenth edition of the “Cairo Cinema Meeting” will be held from November 17 to 20. This edition selects 18 film projects from 13 countries, divided between the development and post-production phases.
In this sense, the Moroccan film “Al-Matroud Min Rahmat Allah” by director Hicham Al-Assri, produced by Lamia Chraibi, is presented in the category of CFC projects in the post-production phase.
The opening ceremony of this cinematographic event, which saw the participation of 194 films from 72 countries, was marked by the screening of the Palestinian feature film “Passenger Dreams” by its director Rachid Machraoui.
The jury for the international competition is chaired by Bosnian director and screenwriter Danis Tanovic, while Egyptian director Sandra Nashaat chairs the jury for the short film competition. The jury for the “Horizons of Arab Cinema” competition is chaired by Italian producer Enzo Porcelli.
