We could just go out and do what we had to do“, remembered the interpreter of Fox Mulder. And Gillian Anderson added: It’s crazy that we were able to present on camera the different feelings, emotions, attraction and all that kind of stuff, but then not talk to each other for weeks.” The actor then admitted that he could have managed his relationship better with his former partner. “We went through a pretty crazy process with this show. I was pretty inexperienced. You were really inexperienced. And all of a sudden… It became a worldwide phenomenon before the Internet. And it was a rush as we was trying to figure out who we were.”

Despite the tensions, the two actors remained on very good terms. During an interview with the magazine PeopleDavid Duchovny revealed that he considers Gillian Anderson a member of his family. “When you share a defining experience in your life, this huge success that we had with the show, only we know what it’s like to be at the center of it all. It’s almost like being in the same family. We know what it was like to be raised in that era. There’s a certain type of shared experience, knowledge and past that never goes away.”
