Jesse Eisenberg claims Emma Stone got his role in ‘Welcome to Zombieland’ after ‘assailing’ him with ‘insults’

The ‘Poor Things’ actress was just 19 when she landed the role of Wichita in the post-apocalyptic comedy alongside Jesse, and it turns out her ‘cutting’ comments about her co-star during the audition allowed him to be hired.

Speaking recently on SiriusXM’s “The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw,” Jesse said, “I was already in the movie, so I auditioned with her that day. The actresses were all excellent but they were all trying to be engaging so they were very polite and all that. And then Emma [Stone] came, and she started making fun of me in the scene, bombarding me with insults in character, and it was so funny. Her lines were so quick, so funny and so cutting. She left the room and I felt so small. »

Jesse added that they knew at that moment that the actress was right for the role.

He continues: “We were like, ‘Oh my God, this person is a genius.’ She was maybe 19 at the time of the audition. She is a truly spectacular, exceptionally brilliant person. »
