This is one of the persistent rumors of the Fifth Republic. What was the nature of the links that united François Mitterrand and the singer Dalida? After 40 years of speculation, the artist’s brother finally answered it… not without keeping an element of mystery.
It’s a rumor that dates back to the 80s. At the time, François Mitterrand was president and was able to benefit from the strong support of the most French of Italian singers to get elected, Dalida. The proximity of the disco star to the politician even left some to imagine that their relationship went beyond the simple partisan or friendly framework, thus giving rise to rumors of romance.
The singer and the president having both refrained from commenting on these rumors during their lifetime, we could never have known the end of the story. This was without counting on the confidences of Dalida’s former impresario and brother, Orlando, who continues to keep the memory of his sister alive through tributes and TV shows.

” Something “
Choosing not to shy away, Orlando then made a major revelation by declaring “there was something”, without however specifying the exact nature of this “something”. Simple pastime or true love story, only the former lovers knew it but the impresario therefore for the first time confirmed the rumors and put an end to the speculation.
Dalida and François Mitterrand met in the early 1970s when the politician was still First Secretary of the Socialist Party. The singer then participated in numerous meetings alongside him, even going so far as to walk up rue de Solférino on May 21, 1981, the day of the presidential inauguration.

The president and the singer notably had in common their commitment to the homosexual cause, a subject still largely taboo at the time and for which they both actively campaigned, one with his songs, the other by decriminalizing homosexuality in 1982.
