Secret gala evening at the Royal Palace in Stockholm for Queen Silvia’s 80th birthday
Queen Silvia of Sweden celebrated her 80th birthday on December 23, 2023, confusing her birthday with Christmas celebrations like every year. Queen Silvia was therefore unable to invite her friends and family, who were themselves busy with their own Christmas preparations. Queen Silvia had made the decision to postpone the celebrations to a date that remained secret until the end.
This Saturday, June 15, the Swedish press was taken by surprise when it saw a parade of large cars arrive in the courtyard of the royal palace in Stockholm. According to Svensk Dam, more than two hundred people were invited to this secret anniversary. Queen Silvia was surrounded by her entire family, enjoying the return of her youngest daughter, Princess Madeleine, who had just returned from the United States this Thursday.

Crown Princess Victoria was accompanied by her husband, Prince Daniel. Prince Carl Philip and his wife, Princess Sofia, were present at the event. Princess Madeleine was reunited with her husband, Chris O’Neill, who arrived from Miami in time for her mother-in-law’s birthday.
Queen Silvia’s grandchildren were not present at this Saturday evening’s grand gala evening, which the Queen attended in a brand new red dress. King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway responded to the invitation of the Queen of Sweden, as did Princess Benedikte of Denmark, who represented the Danish royal family. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden is the first cousin of Queen Margrethe and her sister, Princess Benedikte. No photos were allowed inside the palace.
Childhood friends of Queen Silvia were present at the event, as well as members of her family living in Brazil, the country where she grew up. Members of the Sommerlath family, nephews, nieces and cousins of the Queen were seen arriving at the royal palace. Also seen were Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and his wife, Princess Kelly, as well as Prince Poldi of Bavaria. Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia attended with his wife, Crown Princess Katherine.
A few photos were taken when the guests arrived in the palace courtyard, then a few stolen photos were taken furtively during the appearance of Queen Silvia or Princess Madeleine, who wore a blue tulle dress, signed Monique Lhuillier.
