Lorient summer photo competition, a fresh look at the city

The eighth edition of the summer photo competition was launched in June by the du Château neighborhood center (BDC) in partnership with the Keryado Social Center, the Escale Brizeux, the Secular Patronage of Lorient, the Youth Information Office and the Local Mission. The awards ceremony took place on Friday, November 8, in the presence of Lucie Le Bourhis, president of the board of directors of the BDC Neighborhood House, Tidiane Diouf, its director, and a municipal elected official, the city being also a partner of this social center.

Competition theme: party

The theme chosen was the party, which allowed amateurs and professionals alike to develop their creativity around various settings such as the Interceltic Festival, the streets, the playgrounds, the nautical sites and above all to highlight the human element in various scenes. Organizers and the public noted the quality of the photos taken, both in the way they look at the city and in the artistic composition of the photographed scenes, in the three categories of the competition: participants under eleven years old, eleven to sixteen years old and those over sixteen. 54 photos were collected from which a jury selected three winners in each category and awarded three special prizes: unusual, graphic and favorite.

Openness to culture for all

“We focused a lot on mobilizing children,” declared the organizers, “and we obtained talented photos even with unsophisticated means such as cell phones, the use of which allowed amateurs, even young ones, to participate. It was therefore at the same time an opening of culture to all. We see the importance for these young people of how they look at their neighborhood and this look shows us a world that is changing.” The photos displayed on the walls will then tour the different social centers in the city.
