Rabat is dressed in green to host the 29th edition of the International Festival of Author Cinema (FICAR), which takes place from November 8 to 16, 2024 under the slogan “7th Sustainable Art”. A festival resolutely turned towards the future, where cinema becomes eco-responsible and actively engages in the fight against climate change.
Through this approach, FICAR plays a key role in protecting the environment, by implementing concrete initiatives such as waste reduction, the use of recycled materials and eco-responsible choices in the organization of the event. The organizers are keen to build a green strategy in line with current issues.
Among the key measures: the adoption of ecological transport (bicycle taxi, electric cars), the digitalization of media to reduce paper consumption, as well as waste management with sorting bins available on the site and throughout the city. This edition also highlights Jordanian cinema, thus celebrating the cultural and cinematographic richness of the Arab world, while making FICAR a model of sustainability at the heart of the Seventh Art.
More than 150 international works enrich this edition, headlined by a selection of films straight from Jordan, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission. For the opening, the red carpet was transformed into a veritable glamor scene, where directors, actors, artists and political figures paraded under the spotlight. A dazzling parade, marked by the presence of personalities who came to project the best of international cinema.
During this inauguration evening, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, praised the commitment of the organizers and underlined the crucial role of cinema in the cultural and economic development of Morocco. As for Ms. Jumana Suleiman Ali Ghunaimat, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Morocco, she expressed her gratitude for the honoring of her country, as guest of honor.
Questioned by “L’Opinion”, she declared: “This artistic collaboration between Morocco and Jordan is a source of pride. Morocco has made considerable progress in the film industry, particularly through its international festivals, which now enjoy a global reputation. “Culture, and cinema in particular, remains the bridge par excellence to bring our people together, and this festival is a magnificent illustration of that.”
This event will also pay tribute to Palestinian cinema by screening a selection of poignant short films. The host of films screened during this edition participate in the festival’s prestigious competitions, notably in the international feature film category, the short film competition, as well as for the Critics’ Prize.
