She was only 35 years old. Belgian opera singer Jodie Devos, known throughout the world, died this Sunday June 16, 2024 in Paris. The information, first put forward by the Intermezzo agency, has since been confirmed by RTBF and BFMTV. Aged only 35, Jodie Devos was battling aggressive breast cancer diagnosed a few weeks ago. Rapid cancers have a five-year survival rate of less than 5%. Inoperable patients die within a median of six months…

Considered one of the most talented lyrical artists of her generation, Jodie Devos must have cancel several performances in recent weeks. The last one was posted on his Instagram account, and dated May 17. Since then, tributes have been pouring in, and fans of the lyrical singer are mourning her sudden and shocking death: “How we will miss you”, “It was a marvel”, “Tragic”, “I have just learned of your death, I have no words to remember such a radiant artist“, “Rest in peace”, “Have a safe journey singing Jodie”.

She won the Queen Elisabeth Prize

Passionate about the artistic world from an early age while growing up in a farming family, Jodie Devos was initially interested in to dance, then studied piano, before looking at lyrical singing a little closer, at the beginning of adolescence. She joined the Ciney Conservatory, then the Namur Institute of Music and Pedagogy, and finally the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she obtained her master’s degree. In 2014, she won second prize and the public prize of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth competitionwhich allows it to be recognized internationally.

She had been traveling around France for ten years

Since 2014, Jodie Devos has been regularly present in France, since member of the Paris Opéra-Comique academy. She has participated in many of the academy’s productions, such as The bat of Johan Strauss II, and The Musketeers at the convent by Louis Varney. She also played for the Chorégies d’Orangebefore becoming in June 2022 the godmother of a Belgian association helping children who are passionate about music and who struggle to make a living from this passion.
