Pamiers: fantastic animals take up residence at the media library

Until June 28, you can admire funny, colorful animals at the media library. This Thursday, June 13, the students of Lestang elementary school presented their new exhibition. It was alongside Daïana Gassin, visual artist animator, that the CP, CE1, CE2 carried out this project around “fantastic animals”. An artistic journey which was prepared over 4 sessions of 2 hours.

A long work on the imagination

The students first viewed works by artists who tackle the theme of fantasy. A first approach for children to introduce them to authors like Sean Lenders or Ellen Jewett. Then, the students began a collage workshop: “I suggested that they cut out animal magazines and mix them together. It’s to start putting them in the bath in order to understand the process of mixing different animals,” describes Daïana Gassin. The students also made small sculptures creating their own fantastic animal with its story. “They carried out this volume of work over 2 sessions. This workshop was accompanied by a reading which presented a fantastic animal,” indicates Noémie Bucchierie, CE1 teacher.

Each animal is “unique”

“Each animal is the fruit of the students’ imagination, which makes them unique,” adds Sandrine Lambert, CP teacher. This work allowed students to develop their creativity and raise their awareness of art. “It’s also about getting out of this classroom context. But also to share a common project since it is that of several classes,” explains Noémie Bucchierie. The exhibition will then be moved to the Lestang school for their open house. The two teachers salute the heavy preparation work carried out by Daïana Gassin.
